We are aware of two attacks on livestock by dogs on local sites managed for conservation in recent weeks, one of which was sadly fatal.

Dog walkers are reminded that many sites use sheep or cattle to maintain their ecological value at this time of year, and that even the gentlest family pet can cause worry or harm if not properly controlled where they are present.

Dog should be kept under close and effective control in such areas, and owners are encouraged to look out for signs warning them of the presence of livestock. The advice provided in the Countryside Code and by the NFU and the Ramblers Association is all designed to keep both livestock and dogs safe and ensuring everyone has an enjoyable visit to the countryside or urban green spaces:

Central Bedfordshire Council has recently introduced four Dog Control Orders to help improve our towns, villages, parks and green spaces for everyone – more information on the Orders, enforcement and penalties can be found at:

We thank the vast majority of dog owners who continue to walk their pets responsibly.
